A moment of peace & serenity
The tranquility of a Japanese garden envelopes the senses from the moment one enters the garden gate, and soothes the soul with its timeless beauty.
Hidden within the small confines of a balcony, or majestically set within a backyard garden, its quiet beauty reflects the perfect balance found in nature.
Japanese gardens do not contain great collections of different kinds of plants, or emphasize masses of color, as do English gardens. Nor do they stress symmetry, lavishness, and architectural qualities as do Italian gardens. The wonder of a Japanese garden lies in its timelessness, and its ability to bring a person back to their sense of "self" in our hurried, industrialized world.
Intended as quiet places for contemplation and meditation, Japanese gardens can be created both indoors and out. But while some areas of Canada and the US can grow the many plants traditionally found in Japanese gardens, other regions are more limited in their scope.
Here at "A Japanese Garden" we have tried to bridge the gap between a traditional garden in Japan and those that we as westerners can create using our foliage - with deepest respect for the beliefs and traditions that first created a Japanese garden.
Landscaping ideas, the meanings behind the different objects within a Japanese garden, links to Japanese garden suppliers, and a list of famous Japanese gardens that you can visit in North America can all be found within the site.
